Waiting For The Other Shoe To Drop
I was watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills while on the stationary bike at Crunch tonight when something caught my eye: a pair of crutches. Apparently the new cast member Brandi had broken her leg in a freak high heel accident, as Housewives do.
Brandi chose to accessorize her crutches with a short, tight black cocktail “dress”, dyed blonde hair, excessive cleavage and a...

Uggs, Revisited
Back when I first broke my leg I asked myself whether To Ugg Or Not To Ugg (spoiler, I bought Uggs). So tonight when Kristin invited me to join her for the launch of Ugg Collection in their 5th Avenue showroom I figured I would check out some new comfortable post broken leg footwear. Instead I found some very un-Ugg-like leather ankle wedges that I’m coveting for fall. It’s like they...

Full Circle
I wore these DVF heels that I got at Saks to a wedding in Long Island City last night. And I danced in them. Take that, broken leg.

Fashion Week Aftermath
Every 6 months New York (and I) experience the whirlwind of Fashion Week - which is really more like two weeks. I missed last February because of my broken leg surgery and in September I navigated the week carefully and mostly in flats.
This season I was back in full force with 12 packed days of running around the city attending events and tending to clients in heels. However, as the end of the...
My One Year Broken-Leg-a-versary
Last February 9th I spent the day at NYU Medical center on the table in surgery for my broken leg. I missed out on all of fashion week and spent a lot of time with my friend Percocet.
This February 9th I spent a long 13 hours in my office, had lunch with my former boss at Nobu 57 and hit the Bullett Magazine fashion week kick off party, all in 5 inch heels.
It’s been a long year but...

What a Difference a Year Makes
Last year at this time I was the Foursquare mayor of my apartment (which I had dubbed The Broken Leg Lounge) and my Doctor’s office.
This year I am the Foursquare mayor of my office and the nearby Starbucks.
On last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, Hannah broke her leg. I was so ahead of the trend on this whole thing.
Happy New Year
I don’t really do New Year’s Resolutions, but this year I will make an exception. I resolve not to break any bones in 2011. Fingers crossed!

The House Bunny
While New York City is buried in 2 feet of snow, I’m in far Western Maryland at a ski resort with my family. Not skiing.
It takes at least a full year for a broken leg to heal which means no skiing again this season (technically, I can’t even run yet). Instead, I’m spending my days hanging out in the ski house while Michael sends me photos from the mountain. Like these:

Back in October I took my first post broken leg vacation in Placencia, Belize. I was extremely proud of myself for hiking through the jungle, climbing over rocks and swimming through a cave with my not-fully-healed-yet leg (please see exhibit A, photo on the left). However, last weekend I spent a quick 24 hours in Toronto (please see exhibit B, photo on the right) and had significant soreness...

I Love Lucy
Today between rain showers I took Lucy, my new blue beach cruiser bike, on her inaugural ride through Prospect Park. We made a full loop from Grand Army Plaza through Prospect Park, down by the lake and Audubon Center Boathouse and back up to Prospect Heights. My (former) broken leg did pretty well and although I had to ride at a glacial pace back up the hill, I never stopped once. Victory.
Work It
A few weeks ago my health insurance stopped covering my physical therapy appointments. Considering I still can’t run or even walk down stairs very easily, I had to find another way to continue rehab on my (former) broken leg.
That’s right readers, I had to join a gym.
You may think that since I was a college athlete (two final four appearances in lacrosse!) I would have tons of...

Broken Leg Move
I’m moving to a new apartment this week and I’m not quite sure what to do with my crutches. I haven’t used them in months, but I might take them with me just to ensure I won’t need them again. Same strategy as bringing an umbrella with you so it won’t rain.

The Rascal That Got Away
As I near the end of my broken leg journey, I can look back and see that I did pretty well for myself. I had a routine down with cabs, made it through physical therapy and eventually became the Foursquare mayor of my doctor’s office.
That is, I thought I did pretty well for myself until I saw this photo. My friend Emily spotted a girl in the park today with a broken leg and she was on a...
If The Shoe Fits
BBL (before the broken leg) I wore 4+ inch heels on a regular basis (read: every day). Since that is still way too dangerous for my old man limping, I bit the bullet and bought a pair of flats for the summer. And I sort of love them.
How am I still not the Mayor of my Physical Therapy office? I’ve been going 3 times a week for nearly 3 months now. People who work there should be banned from Foursquare check ins! Give the injured a chance!

A Broken Leg Blog Poll
The polls will be open for exactly one week (closing on June 3rd at 11:59 pm). Results will be announced the morning of June 4th.
To Do List Revisited
Back in February I made a list of ten things I wanted to accomplish while my leg was broken. Now that I’m walking with only the help of a brace, I thought it was time to check back in on my progress:
File my taxes (check!)
Write something for this blog every day (well, not so much)
Finish reading “Game Change” (check!)
Save money by not buying a single thing I don’t...
Walking On Sunshine
According to Gmaps Pedometer, I walked a total of 2.5903 miles today, my first full day out without crutches. And I only sorta looked like an old man with a limp. Check out where I went:
Firsts
For the first time in four months I got a pedicure and rode the subway. I’m making big moves here people.
Today is a Big Day!
Today marks the 4 month anniversary of my injury, my physical therapy intern’s last day before graduation… and the first day I can walk without crutches! Yes, you all read correctly. I can walk.
At physical therapy this morning I passed the big test of being able to lift my (former) broken leg off the bed by myself. I still have to wear the brace and go to several more weeks of PT,...
I just received this email
No thanks/never again in my life.
My Office is an Internet Shopping Graveyard
Thanks Bloomingdales.com, Bluefly and Amazon! Maybe one day I’ll be able to shop in an actual store again.
I'm down to using only one crutch!
Except now I look like Tiny Tim and I walk super slow.

How I've Felt the Last 3 Months
“There’s a whole army of women out there who just don’t have the time, the energy nor the DNA to be fabulous 24 hours a day. And that’s where I dwell. I talk for all those single women out there who just aren’t interested anymore in dolling themselves up for four hours in the hope of meeting Mr. All Right as the lights go up at 4 o’clock in the morning in some ridiculously expensive...
The Countdown
Big news today readers! Dr. William Hung told me I was allowed to start putting some weight on my right leg and that with some practice and physical therapy I should be walking on my own in just two weeks!
Take a good look at me on crutches folks, because as of May 3rd they are going into retirement.
Yes We Cane
I go to the doctor tomorrow to find out if I can start putting some weight on my right leg for the first time in more than 3 months. I won’t be able to just start walking right away, so I’ve decided I should probably get a cane (a cane has to be better than just using one crutch, right?). Then I found out that they make canes that have fold out seats for when you are tired and need to...
Let's Get Physical
About two weeks ago I started going to physical therapy three times a week for hour-long rehab appointments.
My surgeon recommended me a physical therapist, Hiromi, who has a resident/intern named Jason working with her. Hiromi is a spunky Asian woman in her 30s who lives in the East Village and Jason is PT student in his 20s who lives on the Upper East Side. Hiromi and Jason totally seem like...

Online Checkout
I’ve never been big on online shopping, however, the other day while looking through my closet for something to wear, I realized I haven’t purchased any new clothes since sometime in mid December. So I pushed aside the Dayquil, tissues, Tramadol and empty Gatorade bottles and bought the below stuff from the Internet. Please feel free to pick out more stuff for me (and send links!)....
Adding Insult To Injury (literally)
It appears as though what I first thought was allergies is a full-fledged sinus infection.
This morning at my 5 week post surgery appointment I found out I still have somewhere between 4 and 7 more weeks on crutches. Not exactly the news I wanted to hear, but apparently I’m healing nicely.
Oh, and not to worry, the screws are still in there.
Next Steps
Exactly one week from today I go back to Dr. William Hung (not his real name) for the first time in 5 weeks to figure out what my next steps are (steps! ha! pun!). Until then I’m having a problem making future plans because I’m not exactly sure when I’m going to be able to walk again. I have however started to make a list of things I want to do as soon as I’m off crutches....
Blame It On The Rain
I went to lunch with my friend Jared today who I hadn’t seen since I broke my leg. He brought me the essential Woody Allen DVD collection, along with a few other options to help get me through the rainy weekend.
These were just delivered to my office and put a huge smile on my face. Happy weekend!
How much longer do you have on crutches? I’ve seen you around this...

I know exactly what you mean lady. I’ve got about two more weeks.
Before & After Photos - Week 7
You can start to see my scar peaking out from behind my bandages, which should fully come off sometime this week. My doctor also used fancy self dissolving stitches, which are gone now too. Magic!

Things I Miss
I’m about to hit the broken leg 2 month mark and there are a few things I’m really starting to miss (aside from, um, walking):
Pedicures
Wearing heels
Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes
Using a handbag instead of a backpack
Bloomingdales
Dance parties
So basically, I miss being girly. In related news, I’ve been saving a lot of money.
THE MOLE
When I was in college my favorite show in the entire world was The Mole. For those of you who aren’t familiar, The Mole was a reality show hosted by Anderson Cooper best described as The Amazing Race meets Clue (except no one is actually murdered). That’s why I was so excited when the below “get well” postcard arrived in the mail from none other than THE MOLE!*
